Our History (continued)

FOURTH DECADE

With this new thrust in mind, the church embarked on several other projects. These have benefited the communities and direct members of the assembly. A Skills Training Programme was established in 1999, from which over 400 students have graduated. A Golden Age Home - MONTAMILL was established in 1998 in honour of the passing of two of our senior members Sister Jocelyn Montague and Evangelist Lucille Miller. The home caters for approximately 12 residents and at times provides hot meals for non-resident golden agers in the community.

Premises at 3 Homestead Road were purchased to facilitate the erection of a Multi Purpose Educational Complex. We are presently in the completion mode of the final phase covering the Church Hall and an expansion to the Basic School. In addition, the church has also been involved with the development and growth of its members. Seminars, campaigns, conventions and other sessions have taken place, particularly during the last fifteen years. New strides have been made in the areas of counselling, welfare, finance, student outreach, training and evangelism. God has truly blessed and we are encouraged to continue working for the Lord. One of our outreach activities is a radio programme “Morning Dew” on LOVE FM. Feedback highlights that it is well received and is proving to be a blessing.

Our church continually seeks to provide adequate and meaningful service to its members and the community. To accomplish this, our organizational structure has been revised from time to time. Our present structure has three main areas namely, the Pervasive Ministries directly supervised by Pastor and Bishop, the Social and Administrative Support and the Christian Growth and Development areas supervised by the two Associate Pastors.

We now have a total of nine Missions comprising the PGT Family of Churches, with two located overseas, Pentecostal Gospel Temple Ministries in Florida and Peniel Pentecostal Gospel Temple, New York. The local missions are at Elletson Flats, Australia Road, and Cinnamon Crescent in the Kingston and St. Andrew area, John’s Town in St. Thomas, Border in St. Mary and Stanbury Grove and Gregory Park in St. Catherine. The Lord continues to be faithful in all of these Missions.

Special events hosted include: National Heritage Services, Civic Groups Thanksgiving Services, National, Government and Private Sector Services, as well as Community Associations services and School activities. During the last 21-year period, Pastor Stewart was installed as Justice of the Peace in January 1986; received the Order of Distinction in August 1986; was appointed Custos Rotulorum of St. Andrew, February 1993; became the first female Acting Governor General, August 1996; was installed as Bishop of the Pentecostal Gospel Temple Family of Churches in August 2001; received the keys to the City of Kingston in 2006; and received the Order of Jamaica in August 2007.

During our 40th Anniversary we celebrated with the following events: - Black History Month in February; tribute to our founder on his birth date - March 29, and Good Friday Concert in April. Convention 2003 in August had as its theme “God, the faithful God, brought us out to bring us in.” This 40th Anniversary Celebration period ended in November with a Homecoming event for past members of PGT.

We truly thank God for His faithfulness to us over these 44 years. Our future plans involve greater community service; wider gospel outreach; improved discipling of saints; spiritual development and fulfilling our Mission, which is: “To bring people into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ, to nurture them to spiritual maturity and to equip them for their ministry so that the Lord is glorified.”
We know that the faithful God of the past, will remain with us in the future.
