MONTAMILL GOLDEN AGE CENTRE
The idea of a golden age home was conceived many years ago after the death of one of the ‘foundation members’ of the Pentecostal Gospel Temple, Evangelist Lucille Miller. It was at the funeral that a small fund was collected and was dedicated to the establishment of such a home.
The onset of other priorities caused the actualization of a home to be left in abeyance, however, not forgotten. Other events however brought the project again to the forefront, as premises at 7 ˝ Milford Road, Kingston 2 were bequeathed to the church by Sis. Jocelyn Montague, who was a senior member herself. It was decided to name the Center in memory of these two persons ‘Montague’ and Miller, hence the name of the facility became ‘Montamill’.
Through donations from the Funding Agency, Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF), members of the community, contributions and proceeds from fundraising activities hosted by the church, and estimated voluntary labour, a sum of approximately $1,575,000 were spent to advance the project to the stage that it is today. There were many objectives to be reached through the establishment of the centre and praises be to God, so far, they have been met.
It is true that the old, many times, tend to feel neglected and lonely, and fall among the socially deprived in our communities. We anticipate bringing dignity into their lives, and to help the residents to enjoy their golden years with a sense of fulfillment. Our desire is that our residents, no matter how old they get, will never lose their beauty and their joy. These will merely be moved, to a certain extent, from their faces and be found blooming in their hearts.
